Hazardous Materials Awareness Level

The awareness level program addresses basic issues related to hazardous material situations for anyone who has the potential to come in contact with these materials in their line of work. Participants will be able to identify the presence of a hazardous material and the associated risks with routes of entry and types of exposure. The role of the first responder in an emergency situation will be outlined, including how to protect themselves and others while securing the scene and how to efficiently request assistance from the proper authorities and response personnel. This program does not address containment or decontamination procedures as presented in the operations level course, but does meet OSHA/EPA/DOT requirements for awareness level initial and refresher training.
